President’s Welcome

Greetings Sorors and Community Friends,

Welcome to the official website of the Fairfield County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Chartered on December 1, 1979, we have been continuously serving Fairfield County communities for over 40 years.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities. The Sorority was founded by 22 phenomenal social action trendsetters on January 13, 1913, on the campus of Howard University. Since its founding, Delta Sigma Theta has clearly distinguished itself as a public service organization that confronts the challenges of African Americans and hence, all Americans. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and the Fairfield County Alumnae Chapter deliver on its mission through the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust of: Educational Development, Economic Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement.

The Fairfield County Alumnae Chapter delivers positive changes in communities we serve. Annually the Chapter members give hundreds of hours in service and social action. We provide impactful educational programs for youth: the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy for middle-school girls; Delta GEMS for high school girls and EMBODI for middle and high school boys. These ongoing programs have proven to make a difference in the lives of the young people and their families. As a result of these programs our participants demonstrate improved academic skills, enhanced social skills, a focus on community and are better prepared for higher education and employment. In addition, since inception, our signature Scholarship Program has helped scores of families with the Chapter donation of over $300,000 in scholarships to high achieving high school graduates.

Our extensive social action initiatives focus on the Census, voter registration and mobilization and legislative impact through active involvement in Delta Days at the State Capital, Delta Days in The Nation’s Capital and Delta Days at the UN. Look to learn more about the Chapter’s many community service initiatives such as COVID Relief efforts, HIV/AIDS program support, feeding those in need, and physical and mental health.

Thank you for visiting our website. Please follow us on social media or send us an email if you are interested in supporting our efforts.

Yours in service,

Alicia Carpenter-Cummings
